    Relation of Metaphysics and Theology.Paul Tillich - 1956 - Review of Metaphysics 10 (1):57 - 63.
If this is accepted one may ask why one should not use the term "ontology" for this enterprise. It is the structure of being which is under inquiry, and this is what ontology is supposed to do. But the difficulty is that there are structures of less universality like nature, man, history, which also precede in logical dignity anything concrete in their respective spheres but which are not structures of being as such, and which, consequently, are not objects of (...)

  3. What Would Lewis Do?Daniel Nolan - 2022 - In Helen Beebee & A. R. J. Fisher (eds.), Perspectives on the Philosophy of David K. Lewis. Oxford: Oxford University Press. pp. 220-239.
David Lewis rejected consequentialism in ethics. However, two aspects of his meta-ethical views make it a challenge to see how consequentialism could be resisted. Lewis endorses a maximising conception of rationality, where to be rational is to maximise value of a certain sort; he appears to think it is possible to be both rational and moral; and yet he rejects conceptions of moral action as acting to maximise moral value. The second tension in Lewis's views arises from his meta-ethics. Lewis's (...)

What Would Socrates Do?: Self-Examination, Civic Engagement, and the Politics of Philosophy.Joel Alden Schlosser - 2014 - New York: Cambridge University Press.
Socrates continues to be an extremely influential force to this day; his work is featured prominently in the work of contemporary thinkers ranging from Hannah Arendt and Leo Strauss, to Michel Foucault and Jacques Rancière. Intervening in this discussion, What Would Socrates Do? reconstructs Socrates' philosophy in ancient Athens to show its promise of empowering citizens and non-citizens alike. By drawing them into collective practices of dialogue and reflection, philosophy can help people to become thinking, acting beings more (...)

  6. Cybernetics Is the Answer, but What Was the Conversation About?J. dos Santos Cabral Filho - 2016 - Constructivist Foundations 11 (3):587-589.
Open peer commentary on the article “Design Research as a Variety of Second-Order Cybernetic Practice” by Ben Sweeting. Upshot: It is suggested that the main arguments of the target article could be constructed in an easier way and would become even more compelling if a radical consideration of the systemic nature of design were taken into account.

What would you do?: words of wisdom about doing the right thing.John Quiñones - 2015 - New York: Kingswell.
Every day is full of "what would you do?" moments. They can be as simple as times when you're considering whether to bother saying thank you to the taxi driver before getting out of the cab. Or they can be more complicated, such as when you've witnessed discriminating mistreatment of someone and you have to decide whether to speak up. We've all been there. What Would You Do?-Doing the Right Thing Even When You Think No One's (...)

    What Would Confucius Do? – Confucian Ethics and Self-Regulation in Management.Peter R. Woods & David A. Lamond - 2011 - Journal of Business Ethics 102 (4):669-683.
We examined Confucian moral philosophy, primarily the Analects, to determine how Confucian ethics could help managers regulate their own behavior (self-regulation) to maintain an ethical standard of practice. We found that some Confucian virtues relevant to self-regulation are common to Western concepts of management ethics such as benevolence, righteousness, wisdom, and trustworthiness. Some are relatively unique, such as ritual propriety and filial piety. We identify seven Confucian principles and discuss how they apply to achieving ethical self-regulation in management. In addition, (...)

What would you do?: juggling bioethics and ethnography.Charles L. Bosk - 2008 - Chicago: University of Chicago Press.
In hospital rooms across the country, doctors, nurses, patients, and their families grapple with questions of life and death. Recently, they have been joined at the bedside by a new group of professional experts, bioethicists, whose presence raises a host of urgent questions. How has bioethics evolved into a legitimate specialty? When is such expertise necessary? How do bioethicists make their decisions? And whose interests do they serve? Renowned sociologist Charles L. Bosk has been observing medical care for thirty-five years. (...)

What would farmers do? Adaptation intentions under a Corn Belt climate change scenario.John Charles Tyndall, J. Gordon Arbuckle & Gabrielle E. Roesch-McNally - 2017 - Agriculture and Human Values 34 (2):333-346.
This paper examines farmer intentions to adapt to global climate change by analyzing responses to a climate change scenario presented in a survey given to large-scale farmers across the US Corn Belt in 2012. Adaptive strategies are evaluated in the context of decision making and farmers’ intention to increase their use of three production practices promoted across the Corn Belt: no-till farming, cover crops, and tile drainage. This paper also provides a novel conceptual framework that bridges a typology of adaptation (...)

When I see something wrong happening, what should I do? Making a good choice, doing the right thing, or even knowing right from wrong can be hard! In What Would You Do? you can practice making hard decisions and have some fun while we explore some everyday (...)

Um ponto cego na teoria do jovem Habermas: A problemática relação entre Esfera Pública e Emancipação/A blind spot in the theory of young Habermas: the problematic relation between public sphere and emancipation.

The attack on the US Capitol on 6 January 2021 was a tragic illustration of the existential threat that the viral spread of disinformation poses in the age of social media and twenty-four-hour news. From climate change denialism to the frenzied conspiracy theories and racist mythologies that fuel antidemocratic white nationalist movements in the United States and abroad, What Would Cervantes Do? is a lucid meditation on the key role the humanities must play in dissecting and combatting all (...)

What Would I Do? Civilians' Ethical Decision Making in Response to Military Dilemmas.Ann-Renée Blais & Megan M. Thompson - 2013 - Ethics and Behavior 23 (3):237-249.
This research explored the ethical decision-making process of civilians in response to real-world military dilemmas. Results revealed the complexity of these dilemmas, with about equal proportions of civilians choosing each of two response options. The moral intensity dimension of social consensus significantly predicted moral judgment in both dilemmas, whereas that of magnitude of consequences did so in only one dilemma, partially supporting our hypothesis. Both dimensions were significant predictors of moral intent in both dilemmas as was moral judgment, also supporting (...)
